Book your professional driving permit medical examination at a partner practice
Applying for a professional driving permit? Choose a participating practice, an eligible medical practitioner and an appointment time. After your in-person examination the official medical certificate is issued as a PDF you can download from your Udok account. R365 base fee, paid by card or wallet.
Applicants must be 18 or older. Scheduled appointments only, at practices that offer the examination. The practitioner's clinical judgement decides whether you are declared fit or unfit.

How booking works
Choose a participating practice
Open the booking and pick a partner practice near you that offers PrDP medical examinations in person.
Pick a practitioner and a time
Select an eligible medical practitioner at that practice and an appointment slot that suits you.
Pay and attend in person
Pay the fee shown at checkout by card or Udok wallet, then attend your examination at the practice. The certificate is issued after the examination.
Availability depends on the participating practices and their open appointment times. If no practice near you offers the examination yet, the booking shows that clearly rather than offering a different service.
What is a PrDP medical certificate?
A Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) application requires a medical certificate issued on the government's prescribed form, known as Form MC (MC(7)(2005/11)), set out under regulation 117(b) of the National Road Traffic Act. A registered medical practitioner examines you against the twelve medical conditions on the form and declares whether you are medically fit to drive professionally. The certificate must be dated not more than two months before you apply for your PrDP.
The certificate excludes the eye test, which is done at the driving licence testing centre when you apply. It is also a different document from a sick note or a general medical certificate for work. Read more about how consultations work on Udok or browse our practitioner directory.
Price and payment
The base fee for a PrDP medical examination is R365. The exact amount for your appointment is shown at checkout before you pay, by card or Udok wallet. This service is self-pay: no claim is made to a medical aid scheme.
The fee pays for the examination and the certificate. It does not buy a particular outcome; the practitioner's clinical judgement decides whether you are declared fit or unfit. Clerical corrections to an issued certificate are free. If a booked examination cannot go ahead, it is cancelled and refunded rather than replaced with another service.

PrDP medical FAQs
How much does a PrDP medical cost on Udok?
The base fee for a PrDP medical examination is R365, paid by card or Udok wallet when you book. The exact amount for your appointment is shown at checkout before you pay. The fee covers the in-person examination and the medical certificate recording the practitioner's decision. It does not guarantee a fit outcome.
Where does the PrDP medical examination take place?
At a participating partner practice. There is no virtual PrDP medical on Udok: when you book, you choose a practice that offers the examination, an eligible medical practitioner at that practice and an appointment time, and you attend in person.
How long is a PrDP medical certificate valid?
The certificate must be dated not more than two months before your PrDP application, so it is valid for a PrDP application for two months from the examination date. Book your medical close to the date you plan to apply.
How is the PrDP medical examination done?
A registered medical practitioner goes through the twelve medical conditions on the prescribed form with you, examines you in person and records their own judgement on each item. Hearing, limb function, blood pressure and respiratory function are assessed at the practitioner’s discretion. The practitioner then declares you medically fit or unfit and issues the certificate.
What happens if the practitioner finds me medically unfit?
The practitioner’s clinical judgement decides the outcome and Udok cannot guarantee a fit result. If you are declared unfit, that outcome is recorded on the certificate. The fee pays for the examination, not for a particular result.
Is the certificate on the official form?
Yes. It is issued on the prescribed government form, Form MC (MC(7)(2005/11)), completed and signed by the examining medical practitioner and stamped with the partner practice’s stamp. Print it and hand it in with your PrDP application within two months of the examination date. Testing centres apply their own checks, so confirm your centre’s requirements before you apply.
Does the PrDP medical include the eye test?
No. The eye test is not part of the medical certificate and is done at the driving licence testing centre when you apply for your PrDP.
What do I need to bring to my PrDP medical?
Bring your identity document to the practice, and know the details of any conditions you have and medication you take. After payment you can complete a short medical history online; if you skip it, the practitioner collects it with you on the day.
When will I get my PrDP medical certificate?
After the practitioner completes and issues it following your in-person examination. Once issued, the certificate PDF appears in your Udok account to download and print.
Can I pay for my PrDP medical with medical aid?
No. The PrDP medical examination is self-pay only. You pay by card or Udok wallet (R365 base fee), and no claim is submitted to a medical scheme for this appointment.
What if the practice can no longer do my examination?
If a booked examination cannot go ahead as planned, Udok contacts you to rebook or to cancel and refund the payment. You are never moved to a different service or practice without your agreement.
How old do I need to be for a PrDP medical?
You must be 18 or older to book. Department of Transport rules set the minimum age by permit category: 18 for goods (G), 21 for passengers (P) and 25 for dangerous goods (D).
